Meet Trackstick! It’s one more funny GPS device with a very little range of features. It looks like usb memory stick and has almost the same size. Trackstick is desiged to be used with Google-Earth. The only thing it can do is just to write down a GPS track and save it as gpx file which can be later watched in Google Earth environment on your computer. So what? (more…)

Mesh Networks – the Era of Free Calls is Coming.

The first bells are already tolling! The time of mobile ad-hoc networks is coming. The Austrian online newspaper Kleine Zeitung reports about a Swedish compony TerraNet that currently works hard on practical realisation of Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). Accuracy of GPS Data. SharpGPS is Fine but not Smart Enough.

The task I’m currently work on is to increase the accuracy of GPS data. More concretely speaking I’m looking for approaches that would help to filter out the imprecise coordinates. It’s a well known problem that  even if you don’t move, each second you get GPS coordinates from your reciever that deviate at up to 15 m. (GPS signal is quite good) from your current location. Thus such a simple task as to calculate the total distance that the user passed gets to a great challenge. (more…)

Karstadt Integrates RFID.

Golem reports today that one of the largest German shopping chains Karstadt is going completely to change over to RFID (Radio Frequency Identification, if you never heard of RFID, shame on you! :) wikipedia article for you) in the not too distant future. Beginning from the 10-th of September 2007, RFIF technology is already used in the Karstadt store in the center of Düsseldorf. (more…)
