Google Sponsors Money for Socialstream-Project.
Socialstream is a project of a new social network that is currently developed at the Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute. This project is sponsored by Google and it has to improve the shortcomings and to extend the functionalities of the Google’s social network Orkut.
Socialstream will have a number of ambitious features that will significantly distinguish this project from the current internet social networks. First of all there will be a functionality that will gather the content from the other social networks. It is useful for visitors, having accounts at other communities. Socialstream will work then like a RSS-Aggregator. When some of your friends at other sites submit some new data like photos, videos etc., you’ll be immediately informed and have the access to this data. Another feature will be the possibility to publish content at Socialstream and it will be distributed over the other social networks.
It’s also planned, that Socialstream will use the content from various blogs services, photo platforms like Flickr, Picasa etc. There will be also a side panel that will look like Google Talk. Thus there will be a possibility to call contacts.
Judging by announced features Socialstream can turn out to be an interesting service. In any case it’s a fresh view and a promising idea.
