Safari 3 for Windows is far from Being Perfect.
Windows users became yesterday for the first time an opportunity to download and to install Safari web browser on their system. I was very curious about this fact and decided to test the “world’s best browser” how Apple describes its own product. I was shocked! No indeed, I never expected, that such an organization as Apple with the world’s reputation would offer a software product that one can hardly describe as Beta. I don’t sincerely understand who made a decision in Apple team that Safari for Windows is able to win the hearts of Windows users?
The first thing after the installation I tried to do, was to look at Safari ‘s settings. Maybe I did something wrong, but switching the option tabs led to an effect, that the previous tabs was not disabled. So if you called a tab that was shorter than the previous one, you had a salat of options from various tabs. Hm, at that moment I thought it were no bug, but a feature…
Afterwads I wanted to change the look and feel of Safari. The only thing I managed to change was to take away the address input field. Great, a browser without the address line, very useful! All other items didn’t react on my tuning efforts.
At this stage I was already very dissapointed. I didn’t already pay attention at animation effects, that were absolutly buggy. The last fact that pesuade me to uninstall Safari was its core function to show www content. For example http://i-gorod.org is a W3C valid website and it’s correctly shown in all the browsers I tried before (even in original Safari browser on MAC OS). In Safari for Windows Menu line is not shown at all.
In the conclusion I want to say that imho the time for Safari for Windows didn’t come. The new product is a dark spot on the reputation of Apple. I can’t comprehend what was the goal to offer a new browser if you can’t use it?
