In February 2007 a new Web 2.0 startup with a melodic name midomi was launched. The visitors of midomi web site can search for music and singers by singing or humming. The search engine compares your record with its database. Of course there is also a way to execute the search in the traditional manner. The midomi users can create their own account and then add their records to the database. It gives the other visitors of the web site the possibility to listen to how the song that they are searching for is sung by the people.

According to Alexa statistics this new service had its highest pick of popularity in February and March 2007. But then the general interest decreased. Today it’s mentioned in more then 1500 blogs and on more then 12 000 web pages (yahoo inlinks).

How useful midomi service really is, everyone can decide himself. The searching software is not that really precise. But still I should say it’s a funny service and a great idea for a startup.
